Who we are

Founded in 2024, the New England Numismatic Club is a community of collectors, historians, and enthusiasts united by a shared interest in U.S. and New England coinage. We believe coins are more than currency—they are tangible records of history, art, commerce, and everyday life. Our club brings together people of all experience levels, from seasoned numismatists to beginners taking their first steps into the hobby, in an atmosphere that values curiosity, respect, and learning.

What we do centers on education and engagement. The club hosts quarterly meetings, educational presentations, and hands-on sessions focused on coin identification, research, and preservation. We place a strong emphasis on youth and beginner programs, helping new collectors develop knowledge and confidence while fostering the next generation of numismatists. In addition, we organize meetings and activities alongside local and regional numismatic shows, giving members opportunities to learn in dynamic, real-world settings.

Beyond our membership, we are committed to community outreach. Through educational programs at schools, libraries, and senior centers, we use coins as accessible tools for exploring history, economics, and culture. The New England Numismatic Club exists to preserve the past, share knowledge in the present, and inspire future collectors—ensuring that the rich numismatic heritage held in New England collections continues to be studied, appreciated, and passed on.

Club Officers

Elliot Z.

Founder and President

Elliot’s passion for history and coin collecting began at a young age, sparked by a fascination with how small pieces of metal can carry powerful stories across centuries. Drawn to both U.S. and New England coinage, he enjoys researching historical context, identifying varieties, and understanding how coins reflect the people and events of their time. For Elliot, numismatics is not just about collecting—it’s about learning, preserving history, and sharing that knowledge with others.

Equally important to him is connecting with people and building community. While still in high school, Elliot founded the New England Numismatic Club to create a welcoming space where collectors of all ages and experience levels could learn from one another. Through meetings, educational programs, and outreach events, he has worked to make numismatics accessible, engaging, and social—bringing together students, experienced collectors, and community members around a shared appreciation for history and culture.

Treasurer and Secretary

Michael G.

As Treasurer of the New England Numismatic Club, he brings a lifetime of analytical experience and a deep personal interest in history to the stewardship of the organization. After a long and successful career in information technology, he retired with a strong appreciation for structure, accuracy, and long-term planning—skills that now support the club’s financial health and sustainability.

His passion for numismatics is rooted in a fascination with how money has shaped historical events, economies, and societies. From ancient trade routes to modern monetary systems, he enjoys exploring the ways coinage reflects power, innovation, and cultural change. As Treasurer, he combines this historical curiosity with careful oversight, ensuring that the club’s resources are managed responsibly while supporting educational programs, outreach efforts, and community events.

Code of Ethics for Members

1) Integrity and Honesty
Members will act with honesty in all numismatic activities, including buying, selling, trading, and representing coins. No member will knowingly misrepresent authenticity, attribution, condition, grade, provenance, or value.

2) Transparency in Transactions
Members will clearly disclose known material facts about items offered (e.g., cleaning, repairs, damage, altered surfaces, tooling, whizzing, artificial toning, counterfeit risk, restrikes, or questionable provenance). If uncertainty exists, members will state it plainly.

3) Respect for Authenticity and Scholarship
Members will support accurate identification and attribution using reputable references and evidence-based discussion. Claims about rarity, varieties, mint errors, or historical context should be made responsibly and corrected when new information emerges.

4) Responsible Stewardship and Preservation
Members will promote proper handling, storage, and conservation. Members will not encourage destructive practices or alterations intended to deceive (e.g., hiding problems, altering coins to simulate higher grades, or modifying surfaces to mimic rare varieties).

5) Legal and Ethical Collecting
Members will comply with all applicable laws and regulations concerning the acquisition, ownership, sale, transport, and export of coins, paper money, and related artifacts. The club discourages participation in transactions involving stolen property or illicitly removed cultural material.

6) Respectful Community Conduct
Members will treat others with respect regardless of experience level. Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or disruptive behavior is not acceptable at meetings, shows, online forums, or club-sponsored events.

7) Youth Protection and Mentorship
Members will support a safe, welcoming environment for youth and beginners. Members should model ethical collecting and encourage learning, curiosity, and responsible growth in the hobby.

8) Educational Nature of Club Guidance
Coin identification and consultation offered through the club are educational. Members will avoid presenting informal opinions as guaranteed facts, and will not represent club activities as official grading, authentication, or paid appraisal services unless explicitly authorized by the club.

9) Conflicts of Interest
Members will disclose potential conflicts of interest when relevant (e.g., if recommending a dealer, auction, product, or service from which they benefit). Club leadership and presenters should be transparent when discussing items they are actively selling or promoting.

10) Confidentiality and Privacy
Members will respect privacy. Personal details about members, collections, locations, images, and values shared in club settings should not be redistributed without permission. Members should be mindful that public posting can increase security risk.

11) Use of Club Name and Reputation
Members will not use the club’s name, logo, or reputation to imply endorsement of private sales, commercial services, or valuations without prior approval. Club leadership may set additional rules for advertising, dealer tables, or sponsorships.

12) Reporting Concerns and Corrective Action
Members are encouraged to raise concerns respectfully with club leadership if they suspect unethical behavior or repeated misinformation. The club may issue guidance, request corrections, or take membership action if conduct undermines the club’s mission and values.

13) Member Commitment
By participating in club activities, members agree to uphold this Code of Ethics and to promote numismatics through integrity, scholarship, and community service.
